The Netherlands

We had time to kill while the kids had winter break so we headed to The Netherlands for a day.

Our first stop was a freezing cold beach on The North Sea.  Lindsay was in the car lamenting the fact that she didn't bring her swimming suit until she felt the frigid air the second she stepped outside.  Winter clothing was defenitly necessary.

We ran up and down the shore, collected small shells, wrote our names in the sand and left a little time for contemplation.

Nicholas raced ahead of us to see the little lighthouses but cried once he got there because he couldn't go inside. If more doors were left unlocked Nicholas' life would be a lot more exciting.  He checks them everywhere we go, he learned it from his father.  (troublemakers, both of them)

We then headed to the countryside.  The site of fields makes me happy.
We drove around enjoying the lack of people and noise.  We went off the beaten path and drove on a few very narrow roads.  One road ended up turning into a bike path so we pulled to the side to figure out where we should go to get back to a main road.  That's when this gentleman on the bike most likely guessed we were foreigners and laughed at us.  (I'm sure he was laughing in a kind way).  It made me a little nervous when other cars were on the road with us and we had to share.  Thankfully I was a passenger and didn't have to drive.

I love windmills.

Our original plan was to rent bicycles and ride around Amsterdam but we arrived a little late and will have to go back and do that another day.  As we drove through town I was amazed at the amount of bicycles.  The cars were outnumbered.

It was hard to say goodbye to the countryside, but we will return again soon.  Hopefully in time to see the tulips!

I love the McDonalds sign in the background picture of all the bikes. That is the only thing that looks familiar to me.

Oh it was lovely to see all of the interesting things and I am looking forward to seeing your pictures of the tulips. I laughed at "not having your swimming suits".

The comment is not really from Noble but I don't know how to get it to say Hamblin Family. Sorry.

Love the countryside- reminds me of the farm, only it's not a desert, it has windmills, and is greener. Still- compared to brussels it looks a little like home.
