One of my favorite summer hangouts has been Lake Tahoe and we were all very excited to go for the day with my family. I have missed beach days and going with my favorite people makes it even better.
We were so happy to have Grandma come and visit this Spring. Even more exciting was that she was able to stay for Easter!!! I love having family visit for holidays! Some of the thing we did during her short stay: We went to the International Festival at the kids school where we ate food from many different countries. It was delicious. The girls decided to stay at the festival while we took Nicholas to the Embassy Easter Egg hunt in the snow. Although it doesn't look cold, I lost feeling in my extremities. It was freezing. Because of the weather a lot fewer people showed up than expected so the amount of eggs to collect rose from the original amount of 12 to however many could fit in the basket. ...one tree at a time. Poor little trees. You know the ones. Not quite pretty enough for the cherished Christmas tree. Standing all alone in the forest. Or maybe not standing alone, but so close to the perfect tree next to them that only one side is presentable. Wishing, hoping, wanting for someone to come along who recognizes them for what they are on the inside. Who cares that the branches are too scrawny to hold lights up? We try to help the less glamorous trees every year. It makes them feel good. And this year's tree was perfect for the kids to decorate all by themselves. I helped by picking out the lightest ornaments so the tree would not topple over. I know you're all jealous. It makes a great conversation piece and causes laughter for all who come to our house. If you would like a house full of jolly company next year, think of the trees. Make one happy. You can even keep most of the decorations in the box.
Lindsay went to the temple for the first time and since the temple closest to us is in The Netherlands and we would be gone for a long time we took the little guy with us. I miss the days when I had family and friends willing to take an extra kid for the day but he was a champ and waited in the waiting room by himself for hours. It won't be long before he's old enough to go inside with us. They grow up so fast.
