Medieval Festival

There is a medieval festival in the Ardennes the first Saturday in August every year so we went for a little outing.  The drive was beautiful.  I always love getting out of the city.

Ryan, Lindsay and Nicholas took a little walk along one wall of the castle.
I assumed it wasn't too dangerous since Nicholas followed.  He normally doesn't do anything with even a hint of risk.  But then he got scared.
I never ventured over to see if it was dangerous myself.  I usually check things out since my version of danger is very different from Ryan's.  (He blames me for making Nicholas too cautious and there is a possibility there is some truth in that).  When leaving I snapped a picture of the wall they were on, the one with the flags. It wasn't that safe after all.  I myself would have been crawling back.

Views of the surrounding area from the castle.

Many activities were going on throughout the day.
Lindsay was chosen to hold an owl.  Unfortunately I didn't know until it was over.  On the left is the picture of the owl right after it flew off her arm.
The favorite of Lindsay and Nicholas was trying on the different armors and testing the weapons.
I love how this picture shows the feelings of Nicholas and Sabrina.  They seem to have differing opinions as to how cool a sword is.

You can see many hands helping with the helmet because they are HEAVY.  I wouldn't be able to fight wearing all the armor.
Sabrina eventually realized how cool it really was.

After walking through a crowd we played a little game I like to call "Where's Lindsay?".  She saw something interesting and stopped to watch.  It took us a while to locate her.

I loved the music that was being played around the castle and once I figure out how to load a video I'll add a little clip so you can share in the atmosphere.

On our way back to the car we waited out a downpour under a covered bridge and then played in the rain for a while.

I think we'll go again next year, and if you're visiting we'll take you with us.
